As we pulled up to our spot for the day I told myself, for what seemed like the hundredth time, that this was going to be the day. The day when all the right conditions would come together and I would catch the fish of a lifetime. This is an illusion that we as fisherman have become all too familiar with; for some reason we always think it’s going to be THE day. As crazy as it may seem, it's just another one of the many things that keeps us coming back. We love the idea that on any given day anything can happen, and occasionally.....it does.
This past weekend we had the opportunity to take a quick trip to Denver for the fly fishing expo and premier of the if4 film tour. We made the drive out and back with two friends and film makers, Phil Tuttle and Marc Crapo, who both had entries in the tour this year. Do yourself a favor and make sure you're at the if4 when it comes to town. You won't regret it. Rather than describe their films I'll throw the trailers up here to watch.
We also got to hang out with a couple other friends with some innovative fly fishing products. One is Colter Day, who's got a new company manufacturing compound rods. If you haven't heard of him, or of compound rods check out hisfacebook or instagram and get in touch with him about it. He will soon be launching a website for these awesome sticks.
The other product an awesome new fly box by tacky fly fishing. Check out their website to learn about this sleek, functional, and durable box that will be the last nymph/dry box you ever need.
I also should mention our hospitable host, the fine gentleman Jake Forsline, who graciously allowed us to crash his home. For sick content of big Colorado fishies, check out his website at coloradotroutdevotee.com.
It was a great time spending a weekend in the thick of the fly fishing industry, and made me excited for what the future holds. Hopefully this will be a year of good growth for the industry and for us at Crimson Jaw.
